Le Cirque is located within the Bloomberg building in NYC. From the outside, it looks plain, but once you get in, it is so lively and beautiful! The color schemes are vibrant and circus like, hence, “Le Cirque”. Why I love the color schemes so much? You guessed it; they had a lot of REDs! The service is very formal and courteous. The dress style is casual but refined. I wore a black suit with a beautiful aqua statement necklace; I would say I was properly dressed for this restaurant.
My friend and I decided that we will go with the restaurant week prix fix menu. We also decided to order different dishes so we both can try each other’s dish. This has been a ritual of mine with all my friends so that we can have a taste of as many dishes as possible without over ordering and over stuffing yourself. Our first dishes were the Summer Pea Risotto and the Foie Gras (apricot, almonds, brioche). The Summer Pea Risotto was cooked “al dente” which is the proper way of making this dish. Personally prefer it to be slightly well done, but that is my preference and I know it isn’t the proper way of eating this dish. The soup is pea soup and it is as creamy and savory as it can be. The soup was thick, creamy and silky, the perfect consistency of a properly cooked risotto. It was delicious! The Foie Gras was a cold dish. It came with a piece of perfectly toasted Brioche. Again, the Foie Gras was silky and smooth to the tongue and perfectly seasoned mixed with their home-made apricot jam was heaven!
Our main course was the Trout (Vinaigre de Balconville, green apple, fresh fennel) and the Merlu (rice, lemongrass, green curry). The Trout was so, so good. The skin was crispy and the meat just dissolves in your mouth. My friend had the Merlu, however, I didn’t get a taste of it. I plainly forgot to fork some over, but I do have a picture of it! We also ordered two side dishes: Pomme Puree and Spinach. I have to say the Pomme Puree (mashed potato) was amazingly delicious. I will always order this every time I go back. It is super creamy and super consistent. It was a joy to taste it. The Spinach was not bad also, but it was outshined by the Pomme Puree.
Our dessert was Crème Brulee and Chocolate Soufflé. The Crème Brulee was also a very good dish. If you like Crème Brulee, this won’t disappoint. The Chocolate Soufflé was a big portion and can be enough for 2. The texture is very smooth and consistent. I enjoyed it but I won’t order it again. The reason I won’t order it again is because it has a slight bitter-sweet taste to it because they used dark chocolate. I personally am not a fan of dark chocolate but most Chocolate Soufflés are made with dark chocolate which is the proper way of making a chocolate soufflé.
All in all, this was a great experience and I thoroughly enjoyed tasting each and every dish. Their service was great and their food was excellent. I won’t deduct points for personal preferences, especially when they made their dish the proper way and to perfection. If you like French food, I would definitely recommend this place!
