As a Chinese person, I am pretty critical of the type of food is served in a Chinese restaurant because I’ve eaten Chinese food everywhere including home cooking (which no one can beat my mom’s cooking), Chinese food from China, and various Chinese restaurants in America including the gourmet / high-end restaurants. So aside from my mom’s cooking, I want to say that Flaming Kitchen is one of the best. Every single dish I tasted was delicious.
So I ordered a few typical Chinese dish like the Jelly Fish with scallion in Sesame oil. Now, if you’re Chinese or someone who is well versed in Chinese food, you know this is an easy dish to prepare but not easy to make it taste good. At Flaming Kitchen, this dish was not too salty, free of sand (which a lot of restaurants leave some sand in because they didn’t wash it properly), and perfectly crunchy. This was my favorite dish of the night and I finished the plate. Another one of my favorite that I ordered was the Pan Fried Pork and Chive dumpling. This is another staple Chinese dish. The hardest part of this dish is the dough. It can’t be dry and the meat has to have some sort of juiciness. Flaming Kitchen had both, so I am well satisfied with this one. Now on to the main dishes, I tried the Braised Pork with preserved cabbage, this is super delicious, but super fatty. So if you are on a diet, do not order this dish. I can eat this everyday with a nice bowl of rice. It is well presented as well (see picture). The last dish is my all time favorite is Steamed Fish head with pickled cabbage in casserole. The fish was so well done that the meat melts in your mouth. A fish is well prepared when the flavor is in the meat and when it is so tender that it melts in your mouth. I have to say this is one that you must order when you go! There are a ton of other dishes I wanted to try but alas, one can only eat so much!! See below with some super delish pics!
